Kition-Bamboula X

La fin du II^e millénaire, que caractérise une série de crises (politique, migratoire, économique), marque une rupture dans l’histoire de la Méditerranée orientale : c’est la fin du Bronze récent et le début d’une nouvelle ère, l’âge du Fer. Kition est l’un des rares sites urbains de Chypre qui continue d’être occupé pendant toute cette période et le seul, actuellement fouillé, à informer sur les contextes domestiques, et non pas seulement funéraires ou cultuels. 
L’ouvrage présente les résultats des fouilles de la mission française dans l’habitat de la fin du Bronze récent et du début de l’âge du Fer à Kition-Bamboula (Larnaca, Chypre). Ces travaux (2018-2021) ont mis en évidence, pour la première fois sur le site, une succession de niveaux documentant une occupation continue entre le milieu du XIIIe siècle et le tournant du II^e millénaire. L’étude détaillée des vestiges architecturaux et du mobilier associé offre une synthèse importante sur une période (la transition Bronze-Fer) et sur un contexte (habitat) très mal connus à Chypre et, plus largement, en Méditerranée orientale.

The end of the second millennium is characterized in the Eastern Mediterranean by a series of political, migratory and economic crises. The period marks a turning point: the end of the Late Bronze Age and the advent of a new era, the Iron Age. Kition is one of the few Cypriot urban sites which shows a continuous occupation across the crisis years. Moreover, it is currently the only Cypriot site where domestic structures are excavated, in addition to cultic and funerary contexts. 
The volume publishes the results of the excavations led by the French mission in the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age settlement at Kition-Bamboula (Larnaka, Cyprus). For the first time on the site, excavations conducted between 2018 and 2021 revealed a succession of levels documenting a continuous occupation from the 13th century until the turn of the second millennium. The thorough study of the architectural remains and of the associated artefacts gives an important synthesis on a period (the Bronze to Iron Age transition) and a context (settlement), which were until now poorly known in Cyprus and, more broadly, in the Eastern Mediterranean.
