The acts of the ASWA VIII meetings which took place at Lyon from June 28 to July 1, 2006, consist of thirty articles in English or French concerning the recent research of specialists in archaeozoology who work in the eastern Mediterranean region.
The subjects of these contributions cover a time range from the Palaeolithic to medieval periods and a geographical area from Iran to the eastern Mediterranean and from Egypt to Armenia, with a strong accent on the Near East (with one exception – Java). Even though the majority of the contributions are based on the study of animal remains, some of them concern textual or iconographic research. These contributions present the results of both archaeozoological studies and comparative regional analyses, as well as subjects which are specific or synthesizing. The results of methodological investigations carried out with the aid of statistical analyses and biometric and biochemical analyses are also presented.
